The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
