A defence official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential security risks posed by Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about secret information in any cars.
Security Guidance for Defence Staff
In a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that MoD officials have been instructed not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.
He stated that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that security is a concern in all modern vehicles.
We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

This announcement comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and cause chaos to public transit.
Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.
