19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
